Townshend then turned his attention to an audience member, snapping: “I don’t know who’s smoking, but you better (expletive) stop it!”įriday’s 22-song concert focused on the band’s best-known songs, including the show-opening “Who Are You” and such classics as “I Can See for Miles,” “My Generation,” “Pinball Wizard” and “Baba O’Riley.” There were also choice album cuts, most notably “I’m One” and “Behind Blue Eyes,” which were delivered with palpable passion. “Our 50th anniversary,” he wryly noted, “ should be our 35th.” That career - one of the most colorful and tumultuous in rock-music history -is being celebrated on the band’s current tour, “The Who Turns 50.” But Townshend candidly questioned the concert trek’s numeric accuracy by acknowledging the band’s several, multi-year hiatuses.
